Smooth leather and suede shoes are already treated with impregnation and care products during production. But we still recommend that new shoes be briefly impregnated before use. The appropriate sprays for smooth and suede leather and modern technical materials are available from retailers. They provide protection against dampness and dirt and should always be re-applied after the shoes have been cleaned.
Shoes should be stored in a dry and well-ventilated area that is not exposed to the light. Newspaper or other absorbent types of paper should be stuffed into wet shoes for drying. Shoes should not be placed on or next to radiators to dry, but should be allowed to dry slowly at room temperature.
Shoes made from modern high-tech materials may not be treated with care products containing oil or fat. Usually, they only need to be cleaned with a dry or moistened brush and then re-impregnated. The impregnation will be particularly well absorbed if it is sprayed on to the still slightly moist shoe material.
Dirt is best removed with a dry brush. We recommend that an appropriately coloured shoe polish then be applied with a soft brush or thin cloth. Once the polish has dried, the shoe may be polished with a soft cloth or goat-hair brush.
Suede or nubuck leather doesn't like cleaners that contain wax. Multifunctional brushes with rubber nubs, brass bristles, creped lamella and spot rubbers are suitable for cleaning. Dirt and shiny areas may be removed in this way. Special care products for suede are available for refreshing the colour. The shoes should be roughened with a brush after treatment with such a product. Then the shoes should be impregnated with a matching-colour suede spray.
A good tip: the colour on suede shoes may be refreshed by briefly holding them in steam from boiling water. But they shouldn't be allowed to get too wet!
